Things to Keep in Mind When Moving With Pets

Just like human beings, pets also undergo stress when moving. This is why it is essential that you handle them properly when moving. Understand the necessary preparations you need. You should also know what to do when moving them as well as the essential steps to take once you have reached your new home. Remember, it is part of your responsibilities to help your pets adjust to the new environment.

Preparations:

Before you move, it is essential that you have arranged everything for your pets transport. Talk to your travel agent about the requirements of transferring a pet. See to it that all of them are prepared before the big day to avoid problems and delays. Before you move, have your pets checked. This is to ensure that your pet is healthy when you move. Your pet should also have travel identification tag. Most importantly, learn about the regulations of the community you are moving into.

The different states have their own sets of requirements in terms of the entry of different types of pets. You should also be aware of the regulations of cities and local communities. Understand the rules of the neighborhood you are transferring to as well.

Acquire the necessary permits as well. You will need this if you have exotic pets.

Relocating your pet:

After dealing with all the necessary preparations, you need to choose the most appropriate relocating method. Bear in mind that moving companies are not allowed nor trained to transfer four legged pets. You might need to hire professional pet moving service especially if they have special needs. You can also do it yourself.

If you are to fly with your pet, you have to call the airlines ahead of time and ask if they allow pets on board. You do not want to encounter problems checking in

It is also important that you use a high quality carrier for your pet as well. It has to be spacious enough for your pets to move. They should be able to stand up, sit comfortably and lie down. You should also check the ventilation of the carrier as well as its absorbent lining. You should also have to make sure that your pet is accessible in case there is an emergency. Keep a recent photo of your pet as well, just in case your pet gets lost.

You need to have the carrier several days before you move and get him accustomed to it. You can place his favorite toy or blanket inside and use it when going somewhere.

Help your pet settle in:

Your pets are also stressed out after the travel. It will take time before they can settle in the new home. You can help them adjust to the new home. This would also depend on the kind of pet you have. You should also learn about their behavior. If you have more than one dog, you might need to let them in the house one at a time …

Zhu Zhu Pets – Why Are Zhu Zhu Pets So Hard to Find?

Are you desperately searching for where to get your Zhu zhu pet, the must have toy of the year? A lot of people have had trouble finding them. This is due to several reasons.

Zhu zhu pets are known by several different names:

  • zoo zoo pet
  • zu zu pet
  • electronic hamsters
  • motorized hamsters

The official name and spelling is Zhu Zhu pet. Also these very cute electronic critters used to be called Go Go pets.

You might still find Go Go pets at some outlets. They are exactly the same as as the new model just packaged differently. Who knows, maybe the originals will become collector’s items. Recently the company who makes the toys repackaged, repriced and relaunched Go Go pets under their new name Zhu zhu pets. They did a limited prelaunch in the Phoenix area and the results shocked everyone. The little electronic hamsters flew off the shelves and within days were Sold Out! And now everyone wants one.

The manufacturer Cepia is a small company based in St Louis, Missouri. They have only sixteen employees, though I bet they’ve employed a few more casuals in the last weeks. They promise they are in full production mode making millions of the electro-hamsters so that everyone who wants one will eventually be  stocks are flooding into the shops as fast as possible. Apparently the company has been besieged by emails and phonecalls and even people come knocking at the factory doors.

Despite Cepia’s best efforts the pets are so popular at the moment that they will be difficult to find in some retail outlets, especially just before Christmas. In fact I just heard that one major, major retailer has emailed all their customers who ordered their zhu zhus online in September and cancelled their orders.

There have also been reports of fights breaking out between customers trying to buy these things! Pepper spray and even tasers have been used by desperate shoppers. Crazy eh?

So why oh why are these toys so popular?

The motorized hamsters are very lifelike. They are soft and cuddly as well as adventurous and busy. They operate in two modes. One mode is called ‘nurturing or loving’. This is when they love being petted and cuddled and respond with sweet chattering and purring. This gives children the opportunity of interacting in a gentle and loving way with their ‘pet.’ If you’ve ever had a real hamster you’ll know that in reality they do bite and wriggle and scratch. Cuddling up to a ‘lifelike hamster’ is a lot safer for children.

Also the toys have an ‘adventure’ mode. This is when their advanced artificial intelligence really shines. They zip around, either free-range on the floor or in their specially designed hamster habitats, and interact intelligently with whatever they encounter. And of course the bottom line is kids have gone nuts over them. …

The Bond Between Horses and Children

Childhood is a time of incredible growth and intellectual development, but it is also a times of curiosity and fanciful dreams and passions. For many people, the dreams that are cultivated in childhood go on to become lifelong passions and professions. For other people, early passions, like a love of animals and horses, help to develop attachments and life skills that can be transferred into other areas as life goes on. Essentially, anything a child develops a healthy attachment to, like a beloved dog or horse, can help in their development as a caring and responsible person

The Bond Between Horses and Children

Girls and Horses

There has always been a strong bond between little girls and horses, and it’s a connection that has long been celebrated in literature, in stories like “International Velvet” and many more. Even psychologists have remarked on the strong bond many girls have with horses, and the thought is that falling in love with a horse is a safe way for a girl to express the many complex feelings and passions she experiences growing up.

Many parents take note of the bond that children feel towards horses and consider the pros and cons of actually buying one. Though buying a horse is obviously a major financial commitment, there’s no question that taking responsibility for the care of a horse can be a great learning experience for a child. Taking care of cleaning a stall and feeding and grooming a horse can deepen the bond a young person has for the animal, and can make the joyful experience of riding even more meaningful. There’s definitely a strong argument in favor of horse ownership for the whole family, but the wise move is to get a horse insurance quote before making a purchase.

Anyone who has spent time around a horse knows how beautiful and soulful these majestic animals can be. Yes, owning a horse is a big responsibility, but it can be an incredibly rewarding experience as well.…

Learn About Hermit Crab Pet

Of the total number of five hundred species of hermit crabs, only a few species have bonded with humans as pets. Though the number has been small, yet the friendship these little hermits have shown has enriched human knowledge about the natural world as a whole. According to their selection of habitats, these creatures have been classified as land hermit crabs and marine hermit crabs. Although members of both the classifications have adopted as pets, yet few species of land crabs have claimed all the limelight of hermit crab pets.

The land crab species like the Ecuadorian crab and the Caribbean crab live in an enclosure of moist sand and with provisions of bathwater and drinking water. These creatures are omnivorous crustaceans, and they really relish a vegetable diet. In fact, a crab pet must be provided with an adequate supply of calcium rich and carotenoid rich vegetables. The presence of antioxidants within the diet is also important. The marine hermit crab pets require an adequate alkaline environment with provisions for rock faces and gravel for them to take rest or burrow themselves during molting. Like land crabs enclosures, sand is an important component for marine crab’s enclosures too.

The saltiness of the marine crabs’ aquarium must be fixed according to the specific need of the species that is staying there. This is because each marine species of the crabs belong to different native oceans and seas, and each sea has its own individual level of alkalinity. Therefore, the alkalinity of the marine species should be able to imitate the alkalinity of the creature’s home waters.

Keeping a pet is a very great responsibility, but the responsibility is always worthwhile after the creature has accepted the owner as a friend. Winning the trust of these creatures is not a difficult task, if the owner is patient and caring enough. A hermit crab pet is an exotic member of the household and the little crustacean behaves like a true hermit when it literally carries the weight of his existence always on its shoulders. This recognition to the creature will automatically let the crab trust you with genuine friendship and an enriching company.

These creatures are of a very delicate physiology and they respond drastically to any symptoms of stress. These creatures actually start shedding their body parts like the claws, the feet and in extreme cases even eyes. However, the amazing nature of these creatures allows them to regenerate a lost organ. However, for that they have to go to molting stage. Thus, frequent moltings by a hermit crab pet, is serious symptoms that the creature is under lot of stress. The owner should be responsible for finding the reason for annoyance and take measures to relieve the creature of stress.

The owner of a crab must have an understanding of the process of molting and should be able to take proper care of the pet. The usual symptoms of molting are the crabs change in attitude and a …

5 Tips for Optimum Horse Health

Horses, just like people, can come down with illnesses and issues which affect their performance. They can become tired, listless, under the weather, or too thin. This is true even if you do everything right with their nutrition and exercise. In fact, some horses can suffer from chronic conditions such as arthritis and ulcers that are difficult to treat.

5 Tips for Optimum Horse Health

These conditions are most common in older horses, but should be watched for in any horse. There are a few things you can do regularly to keep your horse in the best shape possible to ward off potential afflictions or discomfort.

Supplement your horse’s diet

Supplements like Equinety can be a great way to boost your horse’s nutrition. Equinety can aid in quicker muscle recovery, help your horses remain calm and focused, and strengthen their coats and bones. But don’t settle for cheaply manufactured supplements. Make sure you look for natural, high-quality products that don’t contain fillers or artificial ingredients. Also look for non-genetically modified (GMO) supplements to make sure you buy the most natural product.

Deal with your horse’s anxiety

Believe it or not, many horses are prone to nervousness. This is especially true for race horses, who are expected to perform consistently. In order to deal with anxiety, there are a few things you need to do. First of all, recognize their limitations and try not to push them beyond that. Not every horse performs at the same level and it’s important to pay attention to their particular limits, rather than comparing them to other horses. Secondly, be consistent with your training and your use of aids. Horses can get confused easily about what they are supposed to do and experience a lot of tension because of it.

Feed your horse right

Not all hay is the same, and high-quality hay is extremely important for your horse’s health. Find a trustworthy grower who delivers a consistently good product. Choose hay that is leafy rather than stemmy, as too many stems can cause colic. Also, keep your hay off the ground if you have to store it to avoid moisture and mold. This can be done on pallets or in barns.

Give them plenty of room for movement

Horses need exercise to be happy and healthy. But the amount they need may be different for every animal. Race horses, for example, already get plenty of exercise and have their own regimes for days off. But horses that don’t get regular workouts need room to roam. If they are stabled rather than kept in the pasture, you’ll probably need to schedule a few rides per week. Or you can let them out to run for a few hours a day by themselves or with other horses.

Let your horse socialize

Horses are herd animals and therefore need to socialize often. They are used to playing together, keeping watch while the others sleep, and grooming each other. Being alone for long periods of time can cause anxiety, odd behavior, and weight …
